What is a glass wardrobe?
A glass wardrobe is a wardrobe whose shutters are made of glass panels held in a slim metal or aluminium profile frame, rather than solid board. The glass may be fluted, tinted, lacquered, frosted, clear or mirrored, and can be fitted to both sliding and hinged shutters.
Why glass, and which glass
A solid wardrobe wall absorbs a room. Glass gives some of it back — light moves across the surface instead of stopping at it, and a full-height run reads as lighter than the same run in laminate.
The decision that actually matters is which glass, because each type does a different job:
- Fluted (reeded) glass vertical ribs that distort what is behind them. You get texture, light and privacy at once, which is why it has become the most requested glass finish in bedrooms. It hides the interior without going fully opaque.
- Tinted glass a coloured tint, usually smoke or bronze, that softens the interior view and warms the light.
- Black tinted glass a dark, high-contrast panel that reads almost as a solid surface until light hits it. Strong in low-light and dramatic bedroom schemes.
- Lacquered (back-painted) glass colour applied to the back of the glass, giving a completely opaque panel with a depth of gloss no paint finish can match.
- Frosted glass an even, matte translucency that fully obscures the interior while still passing light.
- Clear glass for display sections and walk-in modules where the contents are meant to be seen.
- Mirror a full-height mirror panel that doubles as a dressing mirror.
Safety, plainly: wardrobe glass is set into profiles and specified so that it is safe in a bedroom environment. Glass selection and backing are confirmed at the design stage, before manufacturing.

Frosted and lacquered glass are fully opaque, tinted glass softens the view, and clear glass suits display sections. The right one depends on how much of the interior you want visible.
Fluted, or reeded, glass has vertical ribs moulded across its surface. The ribs bend light and distort whatever sits behind them, so the panel reads as textured and semi-private rather than transparent. It has become the most requested wardrobe glass because it adds character without fully closing the surface.
Wardrobe glass is set into a metal or aluminium profile frame rather than fitted loose, and the glass specification is confirmed at the design stage before manufacturing. Panels are supported along their edges by the profile, which is what carries the load rather than the glass itself.
Clear and dark tinted glass show marks most. Fluted glass hides them well, because the ribbed surface breaks up reflections, and frosted glass hides them almost entirely. A dry microfibre cloth is enough for regular cleaning on any of them.
Yes, and it is one of the most common combinations. Glass panels are set into slim sliding profiles running on a track. Because sliding panels are large and uninterrupted, glass reads especially well on them — a fluted or tinted sliding panel becomes the main surface of the room.
Yes. Mixing glass with laminate, wood-texture or acrylic shutters across a single run is a common design choice — glass on two panels and a solid finish on the rest, for example. It keeps the visual lightness of glass while controlling how much of the interior is on show.
Lacquered glass has colour applied to its back surface, so the panel is completely opaque but keeps the depth and reflectivity of glass. It gives a gloss that painted board cannot match, and is used where a solid colour is wanted with a glass surface quality.
Glass shutters sit in the premium range of our six finishes, and the profile framing adds to the cost compared with a plain board shutter. Mixing glass on selected panels rather than the full run is a common way to get the effect while managing the overall budget.
